Cantonment Area Safety
Physical Training
Individual PT in the cantonment area is authorized. During hours of limited visibility a road guard vest or reflective belt is required to be worn.Unit PT in the cantonment area is authorized. Group formations must be properly marked with roadguard vests, and during hours of limited visibility roadguard vests and flashlights. No large group runs are authorized on Military Road, Garnett Avenue, or Tenth Street.
Speed limits in cantonment area
Roads in the cantonment area are patrolled by the Fort Pickett Police Department, Military Police, and the Nottoway County Sherriff’s Office. Speed limits are as posted and strictly enforced. When caught speeding, an individual is issued a CIVILIAN citation, required to appear in Nottoway County Court and is NOT issued a military style ticket.Hydration/Heat Injuries
Insure soldiers are properly hydrated, especially when they are not acclimatized.Institute rest plans to prevent heat injuries due to overexertion.
Identify personnel with previous heat injuries
Brief all personnel on the signs of heat injuries and the proper first aid measures for the 3 types:
        Heat cramps
        Heat exhaustion
        Heat stroke
