Types of Used Filters:
This SOP applies to all activities, to include tenants, and training units within the Maneuver Training Center (MTC).(1) Diesel/JP-8 Fuel Filters
(2) Transmission and Hydraulic Oil Filters
(3) Regular Oil Filters
(4) Synthetic and Fire Resistant Hydraulic (FRH) Oil Filters
(5) Diesel/JP-8 Water Separator Filters (Station #1 and Radian)
(6) Coolant Filters
(7) Filmax Filters
(8) Heating Oil Furnace Filters
Gasoline Filters are not allowed in the Metal Pro containers.
Types of Containers:
(1) 55 gallon-steel> Metal Pro removable head containers.METAL PRO Container and Satellite Accumulation Area Requirements for MTC Tenants:
(1) Metal Pro containers can be obtained from the Recycling Center, Building T-2361. Do not place on the container the Non-Hazardous Waste Label. The container is already labeled (USED OIL FILTERS).(2) All filters must be drained for 24 hours before disposal in a Metal Pro container.
(3) Check the Metal Pro container for leaks. If the container is leaking, change the container out for a new one. Leaks will only occur if the filters are not properly drained of contents.
(4) All filters must be placed within a Metal Pro removable head container with a serviceable lid and locking ring.
(5) All containers must be kept closed. The removable head container lid must be on the container.
(6) Do not use other containers for used filter accumulation. The Metal Pro containers indicate the filters are going to be recycled and are not a regulated item if they are recycled.
(7) Do not use the Metal Pro containers for any other waste stream. These containers do not belong to the MTC.
(8) If satellite accumulation area is outside, containers must be in a secondary containment structure that prevents rainfall from entering and holds 55-gallons. Do not use secondary containment structure as primary container.
(9) Once the container is full, the generator of the waste is responsible for transporting the container to the MTC Waste Accumulation Facility, Building T-2361, within that day's working hours.
(10) The generator will inspect all satellite accumulation areas monthly.
Waste Operator Duties at the MTC Waste Accumulation Facility
(1) Check the container for leaks, rust, and dents. If the container is damaged do not accept.(2) Check for proper usage of Metal Pro container. If the proper container is not used, do not accept the container until transfer of contents has been made.
(3) The waste operator will weigh and complete the Monthly Regulated/Filter Waste Accumulation logbook sheet for the month in which the waste was received.
(4) The waste operator will place the container in the appropriate accumulation locker.
(5) The waste operator will issue a Metal Pro container on a one-for-one basis.
(6) The waste operator will inform the MTC-Environmental Specialist monthly on the number of containers at the MTC Waste Accumulation Facility.
(7) The waste operator will conduct a weekly inspection of the Waste Accumulation Facility using the checklist in Appendix A.
